The My Passport drive will run just fine on the Thunderbolt port of your newer Mac at the USB 3.0 speed specifications. Divide your drive into sections and use the drive for different things. In this screen shot youll see the finder window on your new drive is empty and thats because there is nothing on the hard drive yet. Go to the top of the desktop finder window and select EditPaste. Move to the last file hold down the shift key and click and all the files in between will be selected. Move to the finder window of the My Passport drive and release the cursor and the files will be moved across. Do make sure you have a copy of the entire drive or copies of the files elsewhere just in case the drive should fail. Select and Copy the files from where they are to where you want them to be on your internal drive. I give you a link to it here as an additional resource should you appreciate watching a video. Copy and paste or drag and drop to it as I have described in the copy and paste section above. And then you can connect the USB cable into your Windows PC and view and use the files there. The first thing to do is to ensure your entire disk if you are using the whole disk for Time Machine is formatted to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) File System. Or. If it doesnt do that particularly if it your first time setting up Time Machine, select the slider from off to on to turn on Time Machine. Choose the disk or partition you have named and created as the destination for your Time Machine backup. Youll see the option at the bottom left corner of the Time Machine screen. On the next screen check the box to Show Time Machine in menu bar. The My Passport drive can only be connected onto one Mac at a time. There is absolutely no reason why a My Passport drive that is large enough cant be split into two partitions. ![]() And the other partition as the backup to the second Mac when it is plugged in there.
